Marais & Co Locksmiths are currently owned and run by Gert and Annalize Kotzé, daughter and son-in-law of Frikkie Marais. Gert and Annalize moved down to Paarl in December 2001 from Johannesburg to take over the business.

Gert is an electro-technician who worked for the Benoni town councel for a number of years. Annalize was a systems analyst at SAA.

Frikkie Marais took over the business in 1965 from his father - Gawie Marais. The business was originally established in the 1800's and traded under the name of Smuts, Du Toit amd Son. It was bought by the Marais family in 1933.

Frikkie Marais is an old familiar face in Paarl and visits the shop frequently to assist or to offer advice.
